Rocky Hill creates 39 new affordable apartments for Veterans with families and individuals. There are 1, 3 & 4 bedroom units in a pair of 3-story premanufactured modular and conventionally framed buildings connected by outdoor circulation. Amenities include a richly programmed central plaza (a Zocalo serving as the heart and soul of the project), and a community building with on-site management offices, common space and computer lab. The development has been designed and built to a LEED Gold standard. Rocky Hill Housing will serve as a catalyst to further improve the neighborhood.
The design is an integrated architecture and landscape approach that maximizes the potential for human interaction. Features include strategically placed shade trees, a green roof on the community building, solar PVs, 1-to-1 bicycle storage, maximization of natural light and cross ventilation and biofiltration planters with native plantings.
